CTDL 066: Photography tips at Adorama

This is a departure from the science and philosotainment that I usually aim for here, but it still applies to learning, and my hobbies. Adorama was the place I used to buy backdrops and lighting equipment “back in the day” (“the day” being high-school and college when I dreamed of being a photo-journalist). They’re still in the business, even if I never ended up there. They’re running a new series of 100 tips in 100 days, and you can still find the first round of great tips from the first time they did this. I’m still trying to adapt my old knowledge of film photography and apply it to DSLR use. I think the best thing I’ve picked up lately (from other sources) was getting one of the $80 50mm 1.8F lenses which is much faster than my other ones, and takes some great portraits of the kids.

I just realized that I didn’t write some of the above as clearly as I could have. I got the advice about the 50mm lens from elsewhere, but I got the lens itself from Adorama (OK, it was a Christmas gift to my wife, with the knowledge I was going to use it as well).
